State Competitions

Special Olympics Louisiana conducts several competitive events throughout the year. Athletes qualify for state level games during various local and area competitions.

  • State Indoor Games host basketball, bowling, and tennis competitions in Baton Rouge, LA every year in the month of March.
  • State Summer Games host athletics (track & field), bocce, power lifting, or volleyball in Hammond, LA at Southeastern Louisiana University every year in the month of May. The State Summer Games are Special Olympics Louisiana's largest state competition.
     
  • State Fall Classic host aquatics, horseshoes, and softball events. The Aquatics meet is held at the Robichaux Recreation Center in Lafayette, LA and horseshoes and softball tournaments are held in Carencro, LA at Pelican Park. This event is held every year in the month October.
     

Area Events

Area events are local events held within the parish or parishes the area is comprised of. Competition must be conducted in compliance with official Special Olympics Rules. Area events may be conducted as qualifiers in order to meet the criteria for advancement to the next level of competition.

Invitational Events

Invitational events may be conducted to include two or more Local Training Programs or Areas. These events do not qualify athletes for advancement in their sport, but simply serve as another competition opportunity.
